How personal taxation generally works, and who the official authority is in each country Abiora covers. Abiora never calculates your tax and never publishes a figure it has not verified.
General explanation — not specific to any country.
Most countries tax people who are resident there, using their own definition of residence. Living in one country while earning from another can mean two authorities are interested in the same income.
Because those rules differ everywhere and change over time, Abiora points you to the official authority instead of stating a rule that may not apply to your situation.
Taxable income is what remains of your income after the deductions and allowances a country permits. The tax is then applied to that figure, often through several bands where each slice of income is taxed at its own rate.
Rates, bands and allowances change, often every year. Abiora does not publish a figure it has not verified against the official authority, so where a figure belongs you will see the authority link instead.
A tax identification number links your income and filings to you. Some countries issue one automatically, others only on request, and some use a national identity number for the same purpose.
A bank may ask for it, but it is not universally required to open an account. Check what the specific bank lists — the Banking Guide shows each bank's published document requirements.
Where tax is fully withheld from a salary, many employees never file anything. Where income comes from several sources, or from self-employment, a declaration is usually expected.

Three kinds recur almost everywhere: a yearly summary of income and tax withheld, the declaration you file, and the authority's response confirming what is owed or refunded.
The tax line on a payslip is an amount your employer has already sent to the authority on your behalf. It is not an extra charge, and it explains part of the gap between gross and net pay.

Self-employment usually starts with registering the activity with the relevant authority, which is also how you are given or linked to a tax reference.
Because tax is paid later rather than deducted immediately, keeping every invoice and receipt, and putting money aside for the eventual bill, is the practical part that catches people out.
